  Best canoe place in Ontario! My friend and I stayed here for a couple of days, rented a canoe and explored the beautiful surrounding area. We had amazing service, the owners were so helpful in providing us with information for hikes and canoe trips, and the food was delicious. Definitely a must when traveling through Northern Ontario!

  And as for Johanna's dad John, he is fast becoming a legend in his own right. He took us to his canoe workshop which was a real pleasure to visit and a privilege. He is a fount of wisdom, dispensed freely and in an enjoyable fashion. We learned a lot from him in a very short time.

  Sturdy well maintained equipment. Beautiful and clean property. Incredible friendly and helpful hosts. Large range of outfitting equipment for trips, also a great destination. help with trip suggestion, answering questions and are also more than accomodating. Highly recommended!

  Loved our 4 days and nights at Smoothwater! Great place to get outfitted but also a great place to stay and do day trips, photograph and paint from. Johanna's cooking is probably the best surprise! Highly recommend!

  I cannot rate Smoothwater highly enough. Absolutely brilliant from first contact by email through to pickup, outfitting, transport and accommodation.

  Smoothwater is a perfect place to hang out, and it's an especially wonderful place to stay for families dropping off or picking up campers. We've stayed there for 3 years, when we come to pick up our kids from their canoe camp. The setting is lovely, the food is FANTASTIC, and the hosts are fabulous. I really can't say enough good things about staying at the lodge. The one thing needed to make it perfect? Kleenex in the rooms.

  My friend and I live in Scotland. Over the years we have been lucky enough to visit various places in the world to canoe rivers and lakes and enjoy a bit of camping. As foreign visitors, we are very reliant on the outfitters supplying us with the equipment that we require for our trip. Smoothwater were excellent. Due to the quality of information received by email we felt very reassured before we arrived that we would be in safe hands and we were not disappointed. Other than our clothes and sleeping bags they supplied everything that we needed (and that is not always the case with outfitters). The canoe was a beautiful craft, the wooden paddles a joy to use, the tent spacious and robust, and as for the food that we took with us.....fantastic. We stayed one night at the centre after our trip and Johanna was a wonderful hostess - warm and engaging and she is an outstanding cook.
